The challenges we face…
The challenges listed below are unprecedented. They cannot be faced by government on its own. Government and people must act together, and that will mean restoring trust and goodwill. We cannot leave it to our former leaders – they have their foot hard down on the accelerator and we will run into the wall that much harder.
The question posed is this: will we take the action necessary, literally to save the planet as we know it and human civilisation? These severe challenges are not unique to Jersey but what is unique are the assets and resources we can deploy to deal with them. Can Jersey show the world what can be done?
The challenges are:
1. Global warming and the threat of catastrophic climate change
2. Global economic slowdown and the end of the era of cheap oil
3. The ageing population
